The “Middle Ages” in Canaan
Led by Yossi Afek
Four Wednesdays, March 3, 10, 17 & 24, 10:30-11:45 am
If the Exodus took place around 1250 BCE and the establishment of the Kingdom of David and Solomon around 1000 BCE what happened to the Israelites in Canaan in between those years? The book of Judges describes a stunning reality in this middle age period that is pre-Jewish in nature. It is Canaanite – mostly pagan, intriguing and colorful like few other texts in the Bible. Let’s take a look – are these pagans our ancestors? Really? What ever happened to the Mosaic Jewish community established at Mount Sinai?
